Ever since the new era of #COVID-19 came into our lives and paralyzed the tourism industry around the world, we've been asking ourselves: what will Adventure Tourism look like from now on?
Experts indicate that adventure tourism will be one of the most effective options for reactivating tourism after the coronavirus pandemic, since these are activities carried out in small groups and in open, well-ventilated, safe, and hygienic spaces. Vacation recovery will be based on: the outdoors, adventure, mountains, and nature.
Sitting by the edge of a stream, spending the night under a blanket of stars, climbing the slopes of a mountain, riding on horseback through the Andes mountain range, walking trails through a Patagonian forest, or cycling along mountain roads are among the dreams new travelers hope to fulfill. Argentina will open its doors to experience each of these wonderful options, with a variety of natural environments suited to this new paradigm.
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) points out that “more and more destinations are trying to position themselves in this segment because they recognize its ecological, cultural, and economic value.” The UNWTO also notes that “70% of the cost of an adventure tourism trip stays in the destination being visited, while that figure is only 20% in the Caribbean or other vacation resort areas.”
More and more travelers will, given this new context, change their vacation destination. They will avoid beaches, tourist centers, or large cities where crowds are high, and will instead venture into new destinations fully prepared for adventure and in close contact with nature.
Agencies like #ArgentinaExtrema are already working on safety and hygiene protocols that allow people to safely take part in the activities they offer. Argentina is one of the territories with the most variety to offer, thanks to its ever-changing geographic features — volcanoes, deserts, rivers, jungles, sea, and mountains.
Going on adventure trips doesn't always mean grueling physical effort. Discovering the land, culture, history, and traditions of local communities are factors that will gain new value. These trips are specially designed with that purpose in mind, always accompanied by professional guides who will help travelers safely enjoy the culture of each place and its activities.
For those who have never taken part in this kind of activity, here's a list of options:
- Multi-day Treks (several days exploring places only reachable on foot and by camping)
- Ascents to small and large peaks (short or long expeditions focused on enjoying a mountain's surroundings and attempting to reach the summit)
- Multi-adventures and Photo Safaris.
- Short and long horseback rides (through the Pampas, the Sierras, or the Andes mountain range)
- Multi-day cycling journeys.
- Rock climbing
- Rafting, kayaking, and canoeing
A survey conducted by Argentina's National Tourism Promotion Institute (Inprotur) reveals what future travelers will be like. It shows there will be a “more conscious and sensitive traveler,” who will look to engage in authentic activities, in small groups and outdoors.
