Conquering Dreams

How far do you want to go?

June 4, 2020 · Fátima Rolón Visone

Have you ever wondered why we humans feel this urgent need to constantly seek out new challenges?

Is it because life is a constant uncertainty about what lies ahead, and we need something concrete to focus our attention on? Or is it simply that we're not satisfied with our own reality?.

A mountaineer once mentioned in one of his pieces that those of us who live in big cities, warm, well fed and comfortably seated in a big armchair, will never be able to understand what it means to want to walk toward the summit of the mountain you once dreamed of; that we couldn't understand the value of life unless we first feel the weight of the backpack on our shoulders, walking aimlessly toward some destination, thirsty, with legs about to give out, gasping for air, and a body that feels ready to collapse.

But the unknown turns into that place where every breath fills your chest with boundless emotion. With every glance your eyes soak up the colors and you can feel the breeze hit your face as you trust the ridge that carries you along the path toward your dreams.

Because it's not about conquering mountains, it's about feeling that challenge of having reached the highest psychological point of your mind. It's about chasing your dreams and planting the flag in your heart once you've reached them.

You don't climb mountains to be better than others, or for sporting competition — you climb mountains because from up there you can take in the wonders of this world, where a comfortable armchair becomes utterly unnecessary.

Dare to get to know the summit of the mountain you once dreamed of...
